GREETINGS This material is here to make the visit of students to the Royal Chapel of Granada as educational as possible, so that young visitors can get in touch with its historic, artistic and religious richness. The Chapel leads us to very important aspects of our nation’s history; it shows us a great variety of art pieces which extraordinarily represent the mysteries of Christian faith. We want the “inner you” to listen to the call of the Chapel. If its images, its beauty and message speak to our hearts our inner selves will grow. Not only will our eyes grow with the colours and shapes but our feelings, good feelings, will also grow. Through them, beauty will win us over and with beauty, goodness. We also want you to approach Christian faith through the visit. We hope that this cultural visit to religious monuments will have a religious value. Otherwise, these monuments cannot be deeply understood. When we contemplate the altarpieces, sculptures and paintings of the Chapel we get in touch with faith and with the most intimate experiences of our ancestors, who built them encouraged by faith and who saw them with religious emotion. They were a decisive key to reaching God. How many times did they take them to religious heights! How many time did their heart and eyes cry because of Jesus’ and Mary’s pain! How many gifts and sacrifices to pay for rich works worthy of God, worthy of the Eucharist! We cannot make a banal issue of all this feeling, all this emotion, all this life! Getting in contact with the Christian mysteries represented announces the truth of Christ, it evangelises us, it opens us to faith. And also, but only from faith, are they completely understood. Welcome to the Royal Chapel of Granada; we hope you will have a rich, deep experience. THE CHAPTER OF THE ROYAL CHAPEL |
